The Strei ( Hungarian Sztrigy , German Strell or Strey ) is a river in the Hunedoara district in Transylvania , Romania .
The river begins in the Șureanu Mountains ( Munții Șureanu ) at the confluence of the two source streams Pârâul Cald and Pârâul Rovinei , and flows into the Mureș ( Mieresch ) at Simeria ( fish village ).
The upper course of the river, also known as Râul Petros , flows in a south-westerly direction to above the village of Baru ( Big Elephant ). After the confluence of the Crivadia in the Strei before Baru, it flows southwest of the Șureanu Mountains in a north-westerly direction. From the area of the municipality of Sântămăria-Orlea ( Liebfrauen ) in the historical region of Hatzeger Land , the Strei flows north to the confluence with the Mureș. Tributaries of the Strei are the Sas , the Jigureasa , the Crivadia , the Ohaba , the Râul Mare , the Gânțaga , the Luncani , the Făgetul , the Nădăştia , the Râul Râpelor and others. v. a.
The European route 79 runs along the Strei in a north-south direction from Simeria to Baru .
According to the stories , the treasure of Decebalus , which the Romans raised after the conquest of Dacia under Trajan , is said to have been hidden in the river bed of the Sagretia - probably the Strei .
