The Jijia [ ʒiʒia ] ( Ukrainian Жижія / Schyschija ; Russian Жижия / Schischija ) is a right tributary of the Prut in Ukraine and Romania .
The Jijia has its source in the Ukrainian Chernivtsi Oblast near the Romanian border. It flows in a predominantly south-southeast direction and crosses the border with Romania a few kilometers later. In the upper reaches it passes the city of Dorohoi . It flows through the Subcarpathian Plain east of Iași . In the lower reaches it runs parallel to the east flowing Prut for about 70 km , before flowing into it after a total length of 280 km on the right side north of Gorban. The catchment area of the Jijia covers 5757 km².
