Ungureni is a municipality in Botoșani County in Romania . It consists of the twelve villages of Borzeşti, Călugăreni, Călugărenii Noi, Durneşti, Epureni, Mihai Viteazu, Mândreşti, Plopenii Mari, Plopenii Mici, Tăuteşti, Ungureni and Vicoleni.

Ungureni is one of the largest communities in the Botoșani district and is centrally located in the western Prut basin between the Ibăneasa and Jijia rivers .

history

The first surviving documentation of the community comes from the year 1400. The other districts were documented in the following years: Borzeşti 1431, Vicoleni 1432, Durneşti 1433, Călugăreni 1475, Ungureni 1560 and Epureni 1590.

Ungureni already took a central position as a producer of agricultural products in the then County Dorohoi, in the plains of the Moldau Ibăneasa valley. The fertile soil plays an important role in ensuring the existence of this community.

The national road ( drum național ) DN 29 is the trade connection to the district town Botoșani 22 km southwest and the city Săveni 13 km northeast . Ungureni has a rail connection that connects the municipality with the city of Dorohoi in the far northeast of Romania, near the Moldovan and Ukrainian borders. The Ungureni freight station is the main hub for agricultural products from the region.

economy

Around 60% of all economic activity in the Ungureni municipality is agriculture (grain, potatoes, vegetables, fruit and cattle breeding) still play an important role in ensuring the existence of this municipality.

The industry in Ungureni consists of two oil mills for the production of sunflower oil, a company for the production of feed for livestock and a textile factory (clothing) and together with the construction industry have a share of 13%.

Today, trade is a dynamic branch of the economy with around 44 companies (shops, restaurants, handicrafts and services of various sizes in private ownership), the share is around 27%.
