Flămânzi is a city in Botoșani County , in western Moldova in Romania .
The place is also known under the outdated name of Flămânda .
location
Flămânzi is located on the western edge of the Moldau Plain ( Câmpia Moldovei ). The district capital Botoșani ( Eng. Botoschan ) is located about 25 km northwest.
history
Flămânzi was first mentioned in documents in 1605. In 1907 the village was the starting point of the great peasant uprising in Romania . In 2004 Flămânzi was declared a city. However, this is still predominantly rural. In addition to agriculture and food processing, there are companies that manufacture furniture and textiles.
population
In the 2002 census, the city had 11,799 inhabitants, including 11,605 Romanians and 191 Roma . About 4500 lived in Flămânzi, the rest in the four cadastral communities.

Flămânzi has no rail connection. There are bus connections to Botoșani several times a day. The European route 58 runs through the city .
