Kim Gallagher

Kim Gallagher (born June 11, 1964 in Philadelphia , † November 18, 2002 in Oreland , Philadelphia) was an American athlete and Olympian. She and Madeline Manning were the only Americans who have ever won an Olympic medal over 800 meters.

Gallagher won the XXIII. At the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, she won the silver medal in the 800-meter run behind Romanian Doina Melinte (gold) and ahead of Romanian Fița Lovin (bronze). At the XXIV Summer Olympics in Seoul in 1988 , she won the bronze medal in the same discipline in a personal best, behind the two GDR Germans Sigrun Wodars (gold) and Christine Wachtel (silver).

At a height of 1.65 m, her competition weight was 49 kg. Gallagher was married and had one daughter. Kim Gallagher died of a stroke at the age of 38 after being weakened by stomach cancer, which she had suffered from since 1995.
