Ann Elizabeth Packer , MBE , (born March 8, 1942 in Moulsford , Oxfordshire ) is a former British athlete and Olympic champion . With a height of 1.69 m, her competition weight was 57 kg.

Packer was a sprinter, hurdler and long jumper. In the hope of a gold medal, she participated in the XVIII. Olympic Games in Tokyo . In her favorite discipline, the 400-meter run , she only won the silver medal between Australians Betty Cuthbert (gold) and Judy Amoore (bronze) in 52.20 seconds . In the 800-meter run , she won gold with a new world record of 2: 01.1 minutes, ahead of French woman Maryvonne Dupureur (silver) and New Zealander Marise Chamberlain (bronze).

Other sporting successes were a third place with the 4-by-100-meter relay at the 1962 European Championships , a second place with the 4-by-110-yard relay at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in 1962 , a sixth place in 24.4 s in the 200-meter run at the 1962 European Championships and sixth place in 11.91 s over the 80-meter hurdles at the 1962 Commonwealth Games in Perth , Australia .

In 1965 Ann Packer was awarded the MBE .

In Tokyo, her fiancé Robbie Brightwell was not quite as successful as she with silver in the relay and fourth place over 400 meters. After the Olympics, the two married. The eldest son Gary (born October 6, 1965) achieved a 400 meter time of 47.90 s in 1984.
