Jennifer Mae "Jenny" Simpson , b. Barringer (born August 23, 1986 in Webster City , Iowa ) is an American middle-distance , long-distance and obstacle runner .

The three-time NCAA champion (2006, 2007, 2009) over 3000 meters obstacle won her first national title in 2007 with a time of 9: 34.64 minutes, at that time the second fastest of an American woman. At the World Championships in Osaka , she was eliminated in the preliminary stages.

After qualifying in third place in the US elimination matches for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing the following year , she set a continental record on July 22nd in Heusden-Zolder with 9:22.70 minutes. She improved this mark as ninth in the Olympic final to 9: 22.26 minutes.

In 2009 she became US champion for the second time and was fifth at the World Championships in Berlin with another record time of 9: 12.50 minutes, with which she now takes ninth place on the all-time world best list (as of August 2009).

The following year she had to end the season after a stress fracture in her right femur .

In 2011 she became US indoor champion in the mile run and over 3000 meters and US runner-up over 1500 meters . Over the same distance she won the gold medal at the World Championships in Daegu .

At the Olympic Games in London in 2012 , she was eliminated over 1500 meters in the semi-finals. In 2013 she won silver over the same distance at the World Championships in Moscow .

Jenny Simpson is 1.65 m tall and weighs 50 kg. She graduated in 2009 with a degree in political science from the University of Colorado at Boulder , for whose sports team Colorado Buffaloes she started, and was then signed by the sporting goods manufacturer New Balance . Since 2010 she has been trained by Juli Benson. On October 18, 2010, she married former middle-distance runner Jason Simpson.
