Adigrat

Adigrat is a city in the region of Tigray in Ethiopia and the seat of the diocese of Adigrat .
The city is located around 80 km north of Mek'ele near the border with Eritrea and is therefore an important gateway to the Red Sea. The city used to be a royal seat. Remnants of two castles, one by Dej Desta and another by Ras Sebhan , are still there. Today Adigrat is the capital of the Agame countryside. The Central Statistics Agency of Ethiopia puts the population for 2015 at 86,100.

Adigrat, with its Cathedral of the Holy Savior, is the seat of a diocese of the Ethiopian Catholic Church , which is united with the Roman Catholic Church . The OVC project of the diocese of Adigrat worked from 2010 through the Pontifical Mission Society Missio with Rahel-education project of the Institute for the World Church and Mission (IWM) of Philosophy and Theology Sankt Georgen Graduate School (Frankfurt) together, the disadvantaged young people supported in this region and accompanied them during their studies or training .
