Central Statistics Agency (Ethiopia)

The Central Statistical Agency of Ethiopia ( Amharic የማዕከላዊ ስታቲስቲክስ ኤጀንሲ , English Central Statistical Agency of Ethiopia ), abbreviated CSA, is an institution of the Ethiopian government to monitor the economic and social development of the country. She is responsible for data acquisition, evaluation and dissemination of statistics .

The agency, based in Addis Ababa, is led by general directors . The 2007 general director is Samia Zekaria .

The agency was founded in 1963 and was called the Central Statistical Office CSO (Central Statistical Office) until 1989 . The CSO was initially under the Ministry of Planning and Development until 1964, then the Planning Commission. It was re-established in 1972 and subordinated to the planning commission at the time. As part of a restructuring, the CSO was transformed on March 9, 1989 into the Central Statistical Agency , which was responsible to the Council of Ministers. The CSA has been part of the Ministry of Economic Development and Cooperation since 1996 and of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development since 2001.

In 2006, the World Bank information team recognized the CSA as the best government agency for statistical information in sub-Saharan Africa .
