Orphans and vulnerable children
The English term orphans and vulnerable children ( OVC for short ) is used to address orphans and vulnerable children who are to be considered as a special group , for example in the context of development aid .
features
For example, “orphans and children at risk” can include children who have one or more of the following characteristics:
- Death of parents
- The child was abandoned by the parents
- Living in extreme poverty
- physical or other disability
- Life in war or civil war
- sexual abuse
- Malnutrition , hunger
- HIV infection
- Discrimination , exclusion
The exact understanding of the term orphans and vulnerable children depends, among other things, on what is meant by vulnerable (literally "vulnerable", i.e. "endangered" or "needy") and up to what age one refers to "orphans" or "children" " speaks. With orphans (orphans) not only children can be meant, who have lost their parents, but possibly also social orphans whose parents are unable to provide for them. For these reasons there is no uniform definition.
example
In an OVC project of the Adigrat diocese in Ethiopia , young people have been supported with micro- scholarships since 2011 in order to be able to complete studies or vocational training (see Rahel educational project ).
