The Eparchia Adigrat ( Latin : Eparchia Adigratensis ) located in Ethiopia is a diocese of the Ethiopian Catholic Church , which is united with the Roman Catholic Church .

history

The Adigrat diocese was established on March 25, 1937 as the Apostolic Vicariate within the Apostolic Vicariate Abyssinia . In 1950 there were around 4,000 believers in parishes with 8  diocesan priests , and on February 20, 1961, it was elevated to the status of an independent Adigrat eparchy, which is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Addis Ababa as a suffragan . In 1970 it counted 9,848 believers in 14 parishes with 33 diocesan priests, 3  religious priests and 34  religious sisters and grew to 17,427 believers in 33 parishes with 74 diocesan and 11 religious priests and 47 religious sisters by 2002.
