The archeparchy Addis Ababa ( lat. : Archidioecesis Neanthopolitanus ) is the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church Uniate Ethiopian Catholic Church .

It was founded in 1839 as the Apostolic Prefecture of Abyssinia from the cession of territory by the Vicariate Apostolic Syria, Egypt, Arabia and Cyprus . The Italian Lazarist Justinus de Jacobis was called as Apostolic Prefect of Abyssinia . The prefecture of Abyssinia gave up on May 4, 1846 parts of its territory as the Apostolic Vicariate Galla . The prefecture itself was then elevated to the rank of Apostolic Vicariate in 1847 . On March 25, 1937, the Apostolic Prefectures of Tigrai , Dessié and Gondar were spun off from him and the name of the Apostolic Vicariate was changed to Addis Ababa.

Raised to the Apostolic Exarchate on October 31, 1951 , the areas of the dissolved Apostolic Prefectures Dessié, Emdeber and Gondar were returned to him. Raised an archbishopric and metropolitan on February 20, 1961 , the Apostolic Exarchate of Emdeber was removed from him on November 25, 2003 .
