The ecclesiastical province of Addis Ababa is the only ecclesiastical province of the Ethiopian Catholic Church united with the Roman Catholic Church .
The ecclesiastical province of Addis Ababa extended over the territory of two states, Ethiopia and Eritrea . On January 19, 2015, Pope Francis and the Eritrean Catholic Church founded a separate church for the territory of Eritrea, which he assigned to the newly founded ecclesiastical province of Eritrea .
