Within the Roman Catholic Church , the term particular church has various canonical meanings. The term is also used further, as in the declaration Dominus Iesus of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith :

  1. Particular Church ( CIC : ecclesia particularis ), a diocese or an entity equivalent to it;
  2. Rite Church ( CIC : ecclesia ritualis [sui iuris] , CCEO : ecclesia sui iuris ), a particular church of its own right.
