Nia Sifaatihii Ali (born October 23, 1988 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American athlete who specializes in hurdles .

Career

She is 1.70 m tall and has a competition weight of around 65 kg. Nia Ali celebrated her first international success in 2011 when she won the gold medal in the 100 meter hurdles at the Universiade in Shenzhen with a lead of more than two tenths of a second .

Two more gold medals followed at the World Indoor Championships in Sopot in 2014 and in Portland in 2016 . In Sopot, she ran a personal best with 7.80 seconds and was five hundredths ahead of second-placed Australian Sally Pearson . In Portland she was almost able to repeat her performance with 7.81 s, but the result was much closer: Her compatriot Brianna Rollins was only one hundredth slower.

She also took part in two outdoor world championships. In 2013 in Moscow she failed in the semi-finals, in 2017 in London she came 8th.

She achieved another success at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . This time she had to let Brianna Rollins go first, but her time of 12.59 s was enough to win the silver medal in front of the third American Kristi Castlin .

Since its first international appearance in 2011, it has made it into the top ten of the world's best list several times:
