Gerald Phiri (born October 6, 1988 in Ndola ) is a Zambian athlete .

Athletic career

Phiri was born in Zambia and moved with his mother to Welshpool in Wales via South Africa in 1996 . Until 2006 he attended the Abbeydale Grange School in Sheffield . Since 2009 he has competed internationally for his native Zambia. Previously he was eligible to start for Great Britain .

At the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, Phiri reached the semi-finals in the 100-meter run . In contrast, he retired two years later at the World Championships in Daegu in the run-up. At the 2012 Olympic Games in London, he ran through to the semi-finals. He contested his first international final at the 2014 Indoor World Championships in Sopot, where he finished fifth in the 60-meter run with a personal best of 6.52 seconds. He missed the bronze medal by just six thousandths of a second.

Phiri attended Texas A&M University in College Station until 2012 and lives in the United States. He holds the Zambian records over 60, 100 and 200 meters.
