Athletic career
Karol Hoffmann is the son of the former world triple jump champion Zdzisław Hoffmann . Since 2006 he has competed in the triple jump. In the summer he became the Polish U18 champion. Just a year later he took part in international championships for the first time at the U20 European Championships in Hengelo, failing with 15.00 m in the qualification. In 2008 he jumped 15.42 m in the final of the U20 World Championships in his Polish homeland, finishing in tenth place. In the next few seasons he limited himself to national championships and meetings and was able to increase his best performance to 16.50 m in the meantime.
In August 2011 he became the first Polish master in his discipline among adults. A month earlier he started at the U23 European Championships in Ostrava, where he was tenth with 16.21 m. In 2012, he first took part in international adult championships at the European Championships in Helsinki. With over 17 meters he was the first of his qualifying group to reach the final, in which he was sixth with 16.74 meters. His 17.09 m from qualification subsequently stood for four years as his personal best. In 2013 Hoffmann took part in the European Team Championship for the second time with the Polish team . In spring 2014, he finished fifth with 16.89 m at the World Indoor Championships in Sopot, celebrating his greatest sporting success to date.
2016 was his most successful sporting year. After qualifying at the European Championships in Amsterdam, he rose to 17.16 m in the final. With this new personal best he won the silver medal, jumping only four centimeters shorter than European champion Max Hess . A month later, Hoffmann started at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. There he moved into the final as third in his group, in which he ended up in twelfth and thus last place with a width of 16.31 m. In the years that followed, he couldn't get to the 17-meter mark. At the European Championships in Berlin in 2018 , he had to give up in qualifying.
