After attending the monastery school in Roßleben in the Wendelstein Electoral Office , he began to study theology at the University of Leipzig in 1792 . He heard among others Rosenmullerhohle and Morus lectures and graduated as Dr. phil. In the year he was employed in Zeitz in 1799, he was also appointed city cantor there.

In addition to his teaching post, Christian Gottlob Rebs endeavored to influence the religious education of the younger generation by writing popular scientific edification and instructional texts. In 1815 appeared "Three words of faith, love and hope or a teacher's last admonition to the youth" . A year later, this writing was followed by “Daily reflections and prayers in the morning and evening according to the time sequence of the seasons” . Other of his writings were “Devotional Book for Youth” , Leipzig 1821; "The hours of consecration in domestic life" , Leipzig 1828; “The School Devotion” , Leipzig 1830 and “Prayers and Reflections for the House and the School” , Leipzig 1833. He also wrote several textbooks for arithmetic lessons, for example: “Practical instructions for arithmetic according to Pestalozzi's way of teaching” , Leipzig 1813.
