Cameron Levins (born March 28, 1989 in Campbell River ) is a Canadian long-distance runner .

Life

Levins attended Southern Utah University from 2008 to 2012 . In 2012, he won the 5,000m and 10,000m at the US NCAA college championships and broke numerous records at his university (800m, mile, 3,000m, 5,000m). From 2010 to 2012 Levins was the Canadian cross champion.

In 2012 he also had his international breakthrough when he qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games in London over the 5000 m and 10,000 m. He took 11th place over 10,000 m and 14th place over 5000 m. After graduating from university in 2012, Levins decided to become a professional runner and joined the Nike Oregon Project under successful coach Alberto Salazar .

At the 2013 World Championships , he finished 14th over 10,000 m and broke the Canadian 2-mile indoor record. In 2014 Levins surprised with a strong final sprint when he secured the bronze medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and thus celebrated his greatest success to date. Furthermore, Levins broke two Canadian indoor records in 2014 over 2000 m and 5000 m.

In 2017 he left the Oregon Project.

At the 2018 Half Marathon World Championships in Valencia, Levins finished 30th with a personal best of 1:02:15 hours. In October, he made his debut on the marathon distance at the Toronto Waterfront Marathon . He immediately reached fourth place and broke Jerome Drayton's almost 43-year-old Canadian record in 2:09:25 hours .

Cameron Levins is 1.78 m tall with a competition weight of 65 kg.
