Nadja Käther (born September 29, 1988 in Hamburg ) is a former German athlete who specialized in the long jump .

career path

Nadja Käther studied sport and French for teaching at the University of Hamburg . After completing her teacher training course, she had the choice between traineeship and tartan track . Käther decided to do sports and in 2015 joined the Bundeswehr sports promotion group for two years . After that, in February 2018, she began a legal traineeship at Hamburg's elite school of sports in the Dulsberg district .

Athletic career

After Käther had grown too big to do gymnastics and had to give up dancing because of a missing dance partner, she started athletics .

In 2007, Käther wore the national jersey for the first time at the Junior European Championships (U20) in Hengelo and finished fourth with 6.24 m.

In 2008 and 2009 she came in 3rd place at the German U23 championships .

In 2010 Käther won the German U23 championships . In the adult sector she became German Vice-Champion . Internationally she came at the European Championships 2010 in Helsinki with 6.61 m on the 14th place. She was two centimeters short and would have made it to the final instead of Carolina Klüft .

In 2011 Käther was third at the German Indoor Championships and reached 17th place at the European Indoor Championships in Paris with 6.36 m.

In 2012 she came seventh at the German Indoor Championships and 6th at the German Championships . Internationally, she finished 13th with 6.40 m at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul .

In 2013, protracted flexor problems initially ruined the indoor season, then Käther was affected by the lack of training in the outdoor season.

In 2014 she became German indoor runner-up and came 4th at the German championships .

In 2015, Käther skipped the indoor season and was then able to achieve 3rd place at the German championships .

In 2016, Käther did not start in the indoor season in order to prepare for the outdoor season in which she took 4th place at the German championships . Internationally, she took 9th place at the European Championships in Amsterdam with 6.48 m.

In 2017, Käther took 4th place at the German Indoor Championships . From March onwards she had problems with her left foot that made big jumps impossible all summer.

In 2018 she became German indoor runner-up . At the end of May, she improved her personal best outdoors to 6.70 m.

At the beginning of November 2019, Käther announced that she had ended her sporting career.

Club affiliations

Käther started for the Ahrensburger TSV until she moved to Hamburger SV in 2010 .
