Mabel Gay Tamayo (born May 5, 1983 in Santiago de Cuba ) is a Cuban athlete .

The triple jumper Gay celebrated her first major success in 2001 when she won the World Youth Championships in Bydgoszcz . A year later she won the title at the Junior World Championships in Kingston , Jamaica . At the 2003 World Championships in Paris , she finished fifth with a new personal best of 14.52 m. In the same year she won the title at the Pan American Games in 2003 . At the 2004 World Indoor Championships in Budapest , she jumped to ninth place.

At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , she was eliminated in the preliminary round and ended up being fifteenth. At the 2009 World Championships in Berlin , she won the silver medal with 14.61 m behind her compatriot Yargelis Savigne . Its width was just below her personal best of 14.66 m, set up on March 8, 2007 in Havana . On September 1, 2011, Gay improved this in Daegu by one centimeter to 14.67 m and thus finished fourth at the 2011 World Athletics Championships . She had to cancel her participation in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London due to an ankle injury.

Her personal best in the long jump has been 6.28 m since May 17, 2009.
