Irene Pusterla

Irene Pusterla (born June 21, 1988 in Mendrisio ) is a Swiss athlete . She holds the Swiss records in long jump and triple jump .

The Ticino woman became Swiss champion in the long jump in 2008 and also achieved the Swiss season best of this year with a width of 6.32 m. In 2009 she finished twelfth at the European Indoor Championships in Turin and seventh at the U23 European Championships in Kaunas , both in the long jump. At the end of 2009 Pusterla was accepted into the World Class Potential funding program of Swiss Athletics .

On July 17, 2010, Pusterla set a new Swiss record in the long jump at the Swiss Championships with 6.76 m. Meta Antenen's old record had lasted for 39 years. At the European Championships in Barcelona at the end of July, she just missed the final in 13th place. At the end of the year she was voted Swiss Athlete of the Year .

At the 2011 European Indoor Championships , Pusterla reached the final in the long jump. On June 23, 2011, at a meeting in Chiasso, she improved her own Swiss record in the long jump to 6.81 m. With this, Pusterla also fulfilled the limits for the World Championships in Daegu . After Pusterla initially refrained from participating, she decided at the beginning of August to participate in the world championships. On August 20, 2011, at a meeting in Chiasso, she again improved her own Swiss record in the long jump to 6.84 m. At the world championships she could not qualify for the final. At the end of the season she took over the Swiss record with a width of 13.42 m in her only triple jump competition of the year.

In 2012 Pusterla reached 6th place at the European Championships in Helsinki , but missed the final at the Olympic Games in London .

Pusterla starts for VIGOR Ligornetto, she is trained by Andrea Salvadè . She studies psychology at the University of Lausanne .
