Paul Harvey (radio presenter)
Paul Harvey Aurandt (born September 4, 1918 in Tulsa , Oklahoma , † February 28, 2009 in Phoenix , Arizona ) was an American radio host .
Life
Harvey attended the University of Tulsa and worked as early as 1933 at the local radio station KVOO in Tulsa. He later became the station's program director. He later moved to various other broadcasters in Kansas and St. Louis . During World War II , he served in the United States Army Air Forces for a few months . From 1944 he worked for the station WENR in Chicago and from 1951 his program Paul Harvey News and Comment was first broadcast on ABC Radio . It did not end until his death in 2009 and was taken over by 1,200 radio stations and 400 stations in the US armed forces . In 2000 he signed a $ 100 million ten-year deal with ABC Radio.
Harvey was conservative and supported Joseph McCarthy during the McCarthy era in the 1950s. However, in 1970 he opposed the then President Richard Nixon when he took a position on his radio show against the invasion of American troops in Cambodia :
“Mr. President, I love you. But you're wrong. "
In 2005 he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by US President George W. Bush . He died in a hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, at the age of 90.
