The 1952/53 season was the 15th regular hosting of the National League A , the highest Swiss league in ice hockey . For the third time in its club history, the EHC Arosa became Swiss champions, while the EHC Basel-Rotweiss was relegated to the NLB.

In contrast to the previous year, the league was played in a common main round. Each of the eight teams played back and forth against each group opponent, making the total number of games per team 14. The first in the table became Swiss champions, while the bottom of the table had to compete against the best second division team in the relegation to avoid relegation. Each team received two points for a win and one point for a tie. If you lost, you didn't get any points.

Relegation

The EHC Basel-Rotweiss, which had consistently been one of the better teams in the league in previous years, met the best second division club HC Ambrì-Piotta and was clearly defeated 3: 7, whereby the EHC was relegated to the NLB and Ambrì-Piotta was Took place in the NLA.
