The 1970/71 season was the 33rd regular staging of the National League A , the highest Swiss league in ice hockey . For the fourth time in its club history, HC La Chaux-de-Fonds became Swiss champions, while Zürcher SC was relegated to the NLB.

mode

In a common main round, each of the eight teams played in a home and away match against each group opponent, making the total number of games per team 14. The top five teams qualified for the final round, in which the champions were played. The last three placed in the relegation played for relegation. According to their placement in the main round, the teams received bonus points in the second phase of the season. Each team received two points for a win and one point for a tie. If you lost, you didn't get any points.
