Career

Tim Conolly (# 19) with Derek Roy and Martin Biron

Connolly began his career with the Syracuse Junior Crunch , for which he scored 62 points scorer in the 1996/97 season. A year later he moved to the top junior league Ontario Hockey League to the Erie Otters , for whom he played until 1999. In the 1998/99 season he led the points statistics with 34 goals and 34 assists and was invited to the Top Prospects Game of the Canadian Hockey League . Because of the performance shown in the OHL, he was selected in the first round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Islanders as fifth .

On October 2, 1999 , he finally made his debut for the Islanders in the NHL (against Tampa Bay ) - his first goal and his first assist he scored on October 10, 1999 against the Colorado Avalanche . He finished the season as the Islanders' rookie with the best points and was third in terms of assists, power play goals and scorer points, and he also scored the fourth most goals of all Islanders players. The following season he stepped on the ice in all 82 Islanders games, scoring ten goals and 31 assists.

During the 2001 NHL Entry Draft , Connolly and Taylor Pyatt were transferred to the Buffalo Sabers by the Islanders in exchange for Michael Peca . He made his debut for the Sabers on October 4, 2001 against the Atlanta Thrashers and scored his first goal for the Sabers on October 26 against the Ottawa Senators . He finished the season with ten goals and 35 assists and was one of five Sabers players to play all 82 games of the season. A year later, after 80 games in which he scored twelve goals and 13 assists, he was suspended from the NHL for four games due to a high stick (with injury) - at this point he had played 286 consecutive games.

Tim Connolly missed the entire 2003-04 season due to concussion syndrome , which he had suffered from since a concussion in a preseason game against the Chicago Blackhawks . During the lockout in the following season he went on the ice in 16 games for SC Langnau in the NLA .

Back in Buffalo, he set a new personal career record with 55 points in 63 regular season games. In the subsequent Stanley Cup playoffs in 2006 , he scored a further eleven points in eight games, but suffered another concussion. On July 2, 2011, Connolly signed a two-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs . After spending the first year there in the NHL with the Maple Leafs, he completed the second year contract with their farm team Toronto Marlies in the American Hockey League , before ending his active career.

International

Connolly played for his home country at the U20 World Junior Championship in 1999 in Winnipeg, Canada, and the 2001 World Cup in Germany .
