Baldwinsville is a community ( village ) with about 7,500 inhabitants in Onondaga County in the US state of New York .
geography
Baldwinsville is located in a hilly area between Lake Ontario , Finger Lakes, and Oneida Lake . The Allegheny Mountains rise south of the village. The community is located on the Seneca River, which flows through the place. The Erie Canal , which runs between the Hudson River and Lake Erie , is identical for part of its route to the Seneca River, and the 24th of 36 locks on the canal is in historic downtown Baldwinsville.
According to the United States Census Bureau , the village has a total area of 3.2 square miles (8.3 km²), of which 3.1 square miles (8.0 km²) is on land and 0.2 square miles (0.52 km²) or 5, 23% is accounted for by water.
Typical of the plains in the Great Lakes area are varied soils and gentle slopes, which enable specialized agriculture and fruit and vegetable cultivation. The "Lake Effect" mitigates the harsh winters that exist on the north side of Lake Ontario, but leads to the highest snowfall density in a metropolitan area in the USA. The high average rainfall and snowfall is the result of abundant water resources. This climatic region is characterized by large seasonal temperature differences, typified by warm to hot (and often humid) summers and cold (sometimes very cold) winters. According to the Köppen and Geiger climate classification , Baldwinsville has a humid continental climate of the “Dfb” type on climate maps.
history
The city is named after Jonas Baldwin, who settled in the area in 1808 and built a dam for energy generation and a bridge over the Seneca River in the following years . A village gradually formed around these infrastructure projects, which was initially known by different names and was officially registered as a village in 1848 .

International shipping on Lake Ontario made the invasive migratory clam native to the Seneca River, which had a significant impact on the clarity of the water and the vegetation on the banks of the river.
