The Seneca River is a river in the US state of New York .
River course
The Seneca River forms the drain of Seneca Lake . He leaves this on its northeast bank. It initially flows in an easterly direction and passes the places Waterloo and Seneca Falls . The Seneca River then turns to the northeast. Its course of the river touches the north end of Cayuga Lake and then flows in a northerly direction through the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge, east of Black Lake and meets the Erie Canal . The course of the lower Seneca River is largely congruent with that of the Erie Canal. The Seneca River now flows mainly in an easterly direction. It flows through Cross Lake and Baldwinsville . Then it takes up the outflow of Onondaga Lake , turns on its last kilometers to the north and unites with the Oneida River to the Oswego River . The Seneca River has a length of 99 km.

The upper reaches of the Seneca River is developed as the Cayuga-Seneca Canal for shipping. The lower reaches of the Seneca River forms part of the Erie Canal. There are 4 locks on the Cayuga-Seneca Canal. At Baldwinsville there is a lock on the lower reaches of the Seneca River.
