Robert Earle "Bob" Essensa (born January 14, 1965 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper and current coach who worked for the Winnipeg Jets , Detroit Red Wings , Edmonton Oilers , Phoenix Coyotes , Vancouver Canucks and Buffalo Sabers have played in the National Hockey League .
Career
Bob Essensa began his career as a hockey player in the Michigan State University team , for which he was active from 1984 to 1987. As a junior player, he was previously selected in the fourth round of the 1983 NHL Entry Draft as the 69th player in total by the Winnipeg Jets , for which he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 1988/89 season , after he had been exclusively for the previous year whose farm team from the American Hockey League , the Moncton Hawks , was used. In the following five years, the goalkeeper played regularly with the Jets in the NHL, where he also ran up in the 1988/89 season in 22 games for the Fort Wayne Comets from the International Hockey League .
On March 8, 1994 he was given together with Sergei Bautin in exchange for Tim Cheveldae and Dallas Drake to the Detroit Red Wings , for which he completed only 15 games until the end of the 1993/94 season in the NHL. From 1994 to 1996 Essensa played exclusively for the farm teams of the Detroit Red Wings, the San Diego Gulls and his ex-club Fort Wayne Komets from the IHL, as well as the Adirondack Red Wings from the AHL. On June 14, 1996, the Canadian was transferred to the Edmonton Oilers , where he had a regular place in the following three years, as well as the Phoenix Coyotes , Vancouver Canucks and Buffalo Sabers , where he was each in the NHL for a year Contract was before he ended his active career following the 2001/02 season at the age of 37.
From 2005 to 2009 Essensa worked for the Boston Bruins as a goalkeeping coach.
