Career

Dallas Drake began his career in 1984 in the Canadian Junior League Kootenay International Junior Hockey League with the Rossland Warriors . He played there for three years and showed his qualities in the position of winger. In 1987 he moved to the junior league British Columbia Junior Hockey League for the Vernon Lakers , where he played for a year. From the fall of 1988 he went to Northern Michigan University and played for their ice hockey team. In the first two years he showed solid performances and was selected in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft by the Detroit Red Wings in the sixth round at position 116. In 1990/91, Northern Michigan University qualified for the finals of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's national college championships . Drake led his team to the final and scored the winning goal to win the title in the third extension. The following year, his performance improved again when he scored 39 goals in 38 games and contributed 41 assists .

Due to the success in college, he finally made the jump in the National Hockey League to the Detroit Red Wings in 1992 . He was a member of the Red Wings' regular for a year and a half before he was transferred to the Winnipeg Jets in March 1994 . Drake established himself there as a defensively oriented striker. In 1996 the franchise moved to Phoenix , Arizona and he played four more seasons for the successor team Phoenix Coyotes , but was never able to complete a full season due to injuries. His last year in Phoenix was also his best with 45 scorer points.

In the NHL Expansion Draft 2000 was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets , but they did not make a contract with him until the beginning of the 2000/01 season , so he finally signed with the St. Louis Blues . In his first season in St. Louis, he moved with the team in the playoffs to the final of the Western Conference , where they were subject to the Colorado Avalanche . The following years were not so successful. In 2005 Drake was named team captain for the Blues.

In the summer of 2007 Drake was put on the waiver list by the Blues , but he was not signed by any team. St. Louis eventually paid off the one-year contract and parted ways with Drake. Less than two weeks later, the Detroit Red Wings signed him, where he began his career 15 years earlier. In Detroit, Drake played in the 2007/08 season mainly in the defensive checking line alongside Kris Draper . On the offensive, however, he played his weakest season of his career with three goals and three assists. The Red Wings finished the regular season in the top position of the league and went into the playoffs as favorites. After they had won against the Nashville Predators and the Colorado Avalanche, the Red Wings faced the Dallas Stars , against whom Drake made a significant contribution to the Stanley Cup finals in the sixth game of the series with a goal and an assist . Also after six games, they finally won the Stanley Cup against the Pittsburgh Penguins . One month after winning the title, Dallas Drake announced the end of his active career.
