Eric Peter Brewer (born April 17, 1979 in Vernon , British Columbia ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player . Career
The 1.93 m tall defender first played for the Kamloops Chiefs in a lower class junior league before he went on the ice for the Prince George Cougars in the Canadian top junior division Western Hockey League from the 1995/96 season . During this time, he was selected in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft as fifth in the first round by the New York Islanders .
In the 1998/99 season , the left-handed shooter completed his first 63 NHL games for the Islanders, but in the following season he was only partially used in the NHL, the rest of the time Brewer spent with the Lowell Lock Monsters , a farm team of Islanders in the American Hockey League . For the 2000/01 season , the Canadian was transferred to the Edmonton Oilers together with Josh Green and a draft pick against Roman Hamrlík , for which he played 315 games until 2004 .
From the 2005/06 season , Eric Brewer played in St. Louis, his first goal for the Blues scored the defensive player on his debut on October 5, 2005 against the Detroit Red Wings .
After the previous team captain Dallas Drake left the Blues in the summer of 2007, the position remained vacant for the time being. On February 8, 2008, Brewer was finally named the new team captain of the Blues. In February 2011, the Blues gave him in a transfer deal in exchange for a third-round vote in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and the rights to Brock Beukeboom to the Tampa Bay Lightning .
After four seasons in Tampa, the Anaheim Ducks signed him in November 2014. In return, the Bolts received a third-round vote for the 2015 NHL Entry Draft . With the Ducks, however, Brewer only stayed a few months until he was handed over to the Toronto Maple Leafs in March 2015, including a five-round vote for the 2016 NHL Entry Draft , who then transferred Korbinian Holzer to Anaheim. In the jersey of the Maple Leafs, he completed his 1000th game in the NHL a little later. After the 2014/15 season, his expiring contract was not renewed, whereupon Brewer declared his active career over. During his last year as a professional, he had the Prince George Cougars franchise from the WHL, which he has owned since then.
International
With the Canadian national ice hockey team , Brewer won the gold medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and the 2004 World Cup of Hockey . At the 2001 World Cup , he was fifth with Team Canada, and sixth a year later. In 2003 , 2004 and 2007 he won the world championship title with the national team.
