Ryan Vandenbussche (* 8. February 1973 in Simcoe , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player , who during his playing career between 1990 and 2007 among other 311 games for the New York Rangers , Chicago Blackhawks and Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League on has contested the position of the right winger . VandenBussche embodied the Enforcer player type .

Career

VandenBussche spent the beginning of his junior years between 1990 and 1992 in the traditional franchise of the Cornwall Royals in the Ontario Hockey League , with which he moved to Newmarket before the 1992/93 season and played for the Newmarket Royals until January 1993 . During the 1992 summer break, the winger was selected in the eighth round in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft in 173rd place by the Toronto Maple Leafs from the National Hockey League . After playing for the Guelph Storm in the OHL from January 1993 , VandenBussche made his debut at the end of the 1992/93 season in a game for Toronto's farm team , the St. John's Maple Leafs , in the American Hockey League .

With the beginning of the 1993/94 season , the attacker was then firmly in the St. John's squad and stayed there - with the exception of a few games for league rivals Springfield Indians - until the end of the 1994/95 season . After the Canadian's contract had expired and was not renewed, VandenBussche signed a contract with the New York Rangers as a free agent in August 1995 . In their service he made his debut in the NHL during the 1996/97 season . He was also active for New York's farm teams Binghamton Rangers and Hartford Wolf Pack until March 1998 . During the 1997/98 season , the striker moved to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Ryan Risidore . There he managed to get hold of a regular place in the NHL squad from the 1999/2000 season , after having played mainly for the Portland Pirates in the American Hockey League and Indianapolis Ice in the International Hockey League the previous season.

In Chicago, VandenBussche spent five seasons until the end of the 2003/04 season as a full member of the NHL squad, where he served as an enforcer . In the summer of 2004, his expiring contract was not extended, so he joined the Pittsburgh Penguins as a free agent for the following two game years. Due to the lockout of the 2004/05 NHL season , the winger was initially not used for Pittsburgh. Instead, he signed in February 2005 a contract with the Pittsburgh cooperating Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins from the AHL for the rest of the season. VandenBussche only made his debut in the Pittsburgh jersey in the 2005/06 season . His engagement there ended after only 20 missions in summer 2006.

VandenBussche then ventured to Europe , where he joined the traditional Finnish club Jokerit from the capital Helsinki in September 2006 on a trial basis . After 15 games in the SM-liiga , the Canadian returned to North America at the beginning of November of the same year. There he played nine more matches for the New Mexico Scorpions in the Central Hockey League in the role of a playing assistant coach until January 2007 , before - a few weeks before his 34th birthday - he immediately withdrew from active sport for medical reasons.
