Jason Cirone (born February 21, 1971 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a former Italo - Canadian ice hockey player and current coach , who worked for the Winnipeg Jets in the National Hockey League and the Frankfurt Lions in of the German Ice Hockey League .
Career
Jason Cirone began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League , in which he was active from 1987 to 1991 for the Cornwall Royals and Windsor Spitfires . During this period he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1989 in the third round as a total of 46th player from the Winnipeg Jets , for which he completed three games in the National Hockey League in the 1991/92 season . Most of the season, however, he spent with their farm team Moncton Hawks in the American Hockey League . For the 1992/93 season , the center moved to Asiago Hockey from the Italian A1 series . This was followed by three years, in which he only spent a short time with various teams in the North American minor leagues . There he played for the Rochester Americans from the American Hockey League, the Cincinnati Cyclones and Los Angeles / Long Beach Ice Dogs from the International Hockey League , the Birmingham Bulls from the ECHL and the San Diego Gulls from the West Coast Hockey League . He also played for Buffalo Stampede in the professional inline hockey league Roller Hockey International in 1994 and 1995 . From 1996 to 2000 he was on the ice for the Kansas City Blades in the IHL.
For the 2000/01 season Cirone was signed by the Frankfurt Lions from the German Ice Hockey League . For Hessen he scored 35 scorer points in 51 games, including 18 goals. He then spent five years with his ex-club Asiago Hockey in the Italian A1 series. Most recently, the Italian-Canadian played for the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees in the Central Hockey League and the Flint Generals in the new International Hockey League for a year.
From 2008 to 2010 Cirone was assistant coach for the Motor City Metal Jackets from the junior division of the North American Hockey League . In the 2010/11 season he was head coach of the Metro Jets from the third-class junior league NA3HL. For the 2014/15 season he was appointed head coach of the Midland University ice hockey team with game operations in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
International
For Italy Cirone participated in the World Championships in 2006 , 2007 and 2008 and the World Championship Division I in 2004 in part. He was also in his country's squad at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin .
