Darren William Rumble (born January 23, 1969 in Barrie , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and current coach who played 193 games for the Philadelphia Flyers , Ottawa Senators , St. Louis Blues during his playing career between 1986 and 2005 and Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League on the position of the defender has denied. He was briefly active in the German Ice Hockey League for Adler Mannheim . Rumble celebrated his greatest career success in the service of the Tampa Bay Lightning, with whom he won the Stanley Cup in the 2004 playoffs . His son Chris Rumble is also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Player career
The 1.83 m tall defender began his career with the Kitchener Rangers in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League before he was selected in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft as 20th in the first round by the Philadelphia Flyers . First, the left shooter was used by the Hershey Bears , a Flyers farm team in the American Hockey League . In the 1990/91 season Rumble then completed his first assignments in the highest North American professional league for Philadelphia, in 1992 he was finally transferred to the Ottawa Senators . In his homeland, Rumble quickly became a regular player, but then went back to the United States after two seasons, where he again appeared for the Philadelphia Flyers.
For the 1997/98 season Darren Rumble signed a contract with Adler Mannheim from the German Ice Hockey League , but during the current season the Canadian moved back to North America, where he played for the San Antonio Dragons in the International Hockey League . From now on Rumble was active for lower-class minor league teams, in the seasons 2000/01 , 2002/03 and 2003/04 , however, he was again in 36 games for the St. Louis Blues and Tampa Bay Lightning , with whom he won the Stanley Cup in 2004 , on the ice in the NHL. Rumble ended his career during the 2004/05 season with the Springfield Falcons from the AHL.
Coaching career
In the same season Rumble moved to the coaching staff of the Springfield Falcons. There he was employed as an assistant coach until the summer of 2008, before he went to the Norfolk Admirals within the league . At the Admirals, he was chiefly responsible for two years as head coach. As a result of this office, Rumble left the professional area and from then on only trained in the junior area. Among other things, he was employed as an assistant coach for the Lewiston MAINEiacs in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec (LHJMQ) in the 2010/11 season , followed by two years with the Seattle Thunderbirds in the Western Hockey League . He was also the assistant coach of the Icelandic national team at the World Cup of Division IIA 2013 .
With the beginning of the 2013/14 season Rumble took over the position of head coach at the Moncton Wildcats from the LHJMQ. In addition, he was responsible for the U18 selection of the Canadian ice hockey association Hockey Canada at the U18 Junior World Championship 2017 . In January 2019 he was released in Moncton and installed John Torchetti as his successor.
