Michael Henrich (born March 3, 1980 in Thornhill , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who was last under contract with Coventry Blaze in the EIHL during the 2013-14 season. His brother Adam is also a professional ice hockey player. In Asiago and Coventry, the two played together in the same team.

Career

Henrich began his career in 1996 in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League with the Barrie Colts . After he made there through good performance to attention, he was selected during the NHL Entry Draft 1998 by the Edmonton Oilers in the first round in a total of 13th position. The trained striker stayed two more years in the OHL, in which he completed 165 league games and scored 187 points scorer.

In the summer of 2000 he moved to the National Hockey League for the Edmonton Oilers, who only used him in their farm team , the Hamilton Bulldogs , in the American Hockey League . Despite his early draft position, he was never used in the NHL. After further career stints with the Hershey Bears , the Swedish club Mora IK and the Toronto Roadrunners , Henrich signed a contract with the then Austrian second division club EK Zell am See for the 2004/05 season .

There the Canadian was one of the team's best scorers and was able to score 77 times in 34 games. As a result, those responsible for the Duisburg Füchse became aware of him and transferred him to the German Ice Hockey League in summer 2005, where he received a one-year contract. Henrichs could not repeat his good performances, also due to the higher and significantly stronger league, and after the end of his contract he moved to the 2nd Bundesliga to the Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg.

With the Grizzly Adams, the right-shooter rose to the DEL at the end of the season . Henrich stayed in Wolfsburg for another year, playing 56 games and scoring 31 points before his contract expired in summer 2008. In the summer of 2008 he signed with the Italian first division Asiago Hockey in the A1 series . After the 2009/10 season he extended his contract for another two years.

In August 2012 the Canadian was signed by EC Dornbirn from the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League . After one season, Henrich moved to EIHL to Coventry Blaze , where his brother Adam was also under contract at the time.
