history
Kurung Kumey District was formed on April 1, 2001 by splitting off from Lower Subansiri District .

The Kurung Kumey district is located in the west of Arunachal Pradesh. The district borders on Tibet in the north , East Kameng in the southwest , Papum Pare in the south, Lower Subansiri in the southeast and Upper Subansiri in the east . The area of the Kurung Kumey district is 5981 km².
