The Upper Siang District is a district in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh . The district administration is based in Yingkiong . The corresponding Hierarchical Administrative Subdivision Code (HASC) is: IN.AR.US. The district name is derived from Upper English for "Oberer" and Siang , the river name of the Brahmaputra between Tibet and the lowlands of Assam .

history

Upper Siang was split off from East Siang District in 1999 and has been an independent district ever since.

The Upper Siang district is centrally located in Arunachal Pradesh on the upper section of the Siang River . The district is bordered by West Siang to the west, Tibet to the north, Dibang Valley and Lower Dibang Valley to the east, and East Siang to the south. The area of ​​the Upper Siang district is 6188 km².
