The East Kameng District ( East English for "East") is a district in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh . The district administration is based in Seppa . The associated Hierarchical Administrative Subdivision Code (HASC) is: IN.AR.EK.
history
The East Kameng District is in the area of the former North-East Frontier Agency (NEFA). The Kameng Frontier Division was renamed the Kameng District . On June 1, 1980, the Kameng District was divided into the East Kameng and West Kameng Districts, with East Kameng originating from the former Sepla Subdivision .
geography
The East Kameng District is located in the west of Arunachal Pradesh in the Upper Himalayas . East Kameng borders West Kameng in the west, Tawang district in the north-west, Tibet in the north, the Kurung Kumey and Papum Pare districts in the east, and Assam state ( Sonitpur district ) in the south . The area of the East Kameng District is 4134 km². The district extends in the north to the main Himalayan ridge, along which the border with Tibet runs. The Kameng River flows through the district in a southerly direction and drains it to the Brahmaputra . In the extreme south extends the lowlands of Assam . In the southwest is the Pakhui Tiger Reserve .

West Kameng is divided into two sub-divisions: Seppa and Chayangtajo.

According to the 2011 census, the East Kameng district has 78,690 inhabitants, with the ratio of women to men being 1012: 1000. The literacy rate is 62.5%. The 2001 census showed a population of 57,065.
