The West Kameng district is a district in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh . The seat of the district administration is Bomdila . The corresponding Hierarchical Administrative Subdivision Code (HASC) is: IN.AR.WK.
history
The West Kameng district is in the area of the former North-East Frontier Agency (NEFA). The Kameng Frontier Division was renamed the Kameng District . On June 1, 1980, the Kameng District was divided into the East Kameng and West Kameng districts, with the former Bomdila Subdivision West Kameng being formed.
geography
The West Kameng District is located in the west of Arunachal Pradesh in the Upper Himalayas . West Kameng borders Bhutan in the west, Tawang district in the northwest , East Kameng district in the east, and Assam state ( Sonitpur district ) in the south . The area of the district of West Kameng is 7422 km². The district extends in the north to the main Himalayan ridge not far from the border with Tibet . The Kameng River flows through the extreme southeast of the district. It drains most of West Kameng through its right tributary Bichom . In the extreme south extends the lowlands of Assam . The heights in the district vary between 198 m and 4180 m .

West Kameng consists of 5 sub-divisions: Bomdila, Rupa, Thrizino, Singchung and Dirang.

According to the 2011 census, the West Kameng district has 83,947 inhabitants, with a female-male ratio of 755: 1000. The literacy rate is 69.4%. The 2001 census showed a population of 74,595.
