The 2004/05 season was the twelfth regular staging of the first division , the second Czech ice hockey division . In the playoffs, HC České Budějovice prevailed, who qualified for the Extraliga relegation , in which he prevailed against HC Dukla Jihlava and rose. So the HC České Budějovice could reciprocate for the defeat in the previous year's relegation and the associated relegation at Dukla Jihlava. The HC Slezan Opava and the IHC Pisek descended into the second league.

In the main round, each of the 14 teams played a total of 52 games. The eight best-placed teams qualified for the playoffs. The season ended prematurely for the teams in positions 9 to 12. The last two placed in the main round had to play in relegation to stay in the league. Each team received three points for a win after regular time, two points for a win after overtime, and one point for a draw and a defeat after overtime. No points were awarded for a defeat after normal time.

The last two places in the 1st division met the three best teams in the 2nd division in relegation. The HC Slezan Opava and the IHC Písek relegated to the 2nd division and were replaced by the TJ Slovan Jindřichův Hradec and the HC Prostějov.
