Career

Bergeron in the dress of the Minnesota Wild

Marc-André Bergeron began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian Junior League Québec Major Junior Hockey League , in which he was active from 1997 to 2001 for the Baie-Comeau Drakkar and Shawinigan Cataractes .

He then received a contract on July 20, 2001 as a free agent with the Edmonton Oilers , for which he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2002/03 season . He had previously played in the 2001/02 season for their farm team , the Hamilton Bulldogs , in the American Hockey League (AHL). During the lockout in the 2004/05 NHL season , the defender first played in his hometown for the Caron & Guay de Trois-Rivières in the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey . He then ended the season at Brynäs IF in the Swedish Elitserien .

After resumption of play in the NHL 2005, Bergeron returned to the Edmonton Oilers, who gave him to the New York Islanders during the 2006/07 season . This transferred him after a year to the Anaheim Ducks , for which he played only nine games in the 2007/08 season before he was given up on June 10, 2008 to the Minnesota Wild .

Bergeron played the entire 2008-09 season for the Minnesota Wild and was set as a regular. In 72 games he scored 14 goals, gave 18 assists and collected 32 points scorer. On October 6, 2009, he signed a contract with the Canadiens de Montréal . At the end of the 2009/10 season his contract was not extended and Bergeron was for some time without a club before he received a contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning in January 2011 , who sent him to the farm team to the Norfolk Admirals . After good performance, Bergeron was appointed to the Lightning NHL squad a few weeks later. On April 2, 2013, he was transferred to the Carolina Hurricanes .

Since the Hurricanes did not renew his expiring contract, Bergeron signed a three-year contract with the ZSC Lions from the Swiss National League A in July 2013 . With the Lions, Bergeron won both the Swiss championship title in 2014 and the national cup competition in 2016. He also triumphed in 2015 with Team Canada at the Spengler Cup .

After the 2015/16 season, Bergeron returned to North America, where he joined the Cleveland Monsters from the AHL on a trial basis in December 2016 . Less than two months later, the defender also received a contract from the Monsters' NHL cooperation partner, the Columbus Blue Jackets . However, he was not used for the Blue Jackets and received no new contract beyond the 2016/17 season. Bergeron then ended his active career by returning to his youth club, the Shawinigan Cataractes, where he took on the role of Director of Player Development .
