Anders Carlsson (born November 25, 1960 in Gävle ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player and current official who played for the New Jersey Devils in the National Hockey League from 1978 to 2001 .

Career

Anders Carlsson began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Brynäs IF , for whose professional team he was active from 1978 to 1984 in the Elitserien , the highest Swedish league. His greatest success with Brynäs during this period was winning the Swedish championship in the 1979/80 season . From 1984 to 1986 the center played for Södertälje SK , with whom he was first also champion in the 1984/85 season and runner-up in the following season . In 1986 he was also elected to the Swedish All-Star Team. Following the season he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1986 in the fourth round as a total of 66th player by the New Jersey Devils . For New Jersey he was on the ice from 1986 to 1989 in the National Hockey League and scored 34 scorer points in 107 games, eight of them goals. During the same period, he also ran regularly for New Jersey's farm teams Maine Mariners and Utica Devils in the American Hockey League .

For the 1989/90 season Carlsson received a contract with his hometown club Brynäs IF. After his return to Sweden, he had no adjustment problems and scored 31 assists, which he and his compatriot Håkan Loob were the best assists in the Elitserien. For the 1991/92 season, the left-handed player moved to the Boro team from the second-rate division 1. For his new team, he scored 33 goals and 23 assists in 29 games. He was then committed again by Brynäs IF, with whom he was Swedish champions for the second time in his career in the 1992/93 season . In this and the following season he was also team captain at Brynäs. In the 1994/95 season he competed for Västerås IK . He then played another six seasons until his retirement age at the age of 40 for the Eltiserien participant Leksands IF , where the veteran was also team captain in the 1999/2000 season . In the same season he took part in the All-Star Game of the Elitserien.

After the end of his playing career, Carlsson rose to General Manager at Leksands IF and was in this role from 2001 to 2006. Since 2006 he has been working as a scout for the NHL organization of the Colorado Avalanche and has also been general manager at Rögle BK since the 2013/14 season .

International

For Sweden , Carlsson took part in the 1986 , 1987 , 1989 , 1990 , 1991 and 1997 World Championships . Overall, he was two times world champion and three times vice world champion with the Swedish national team. He was also in his country's squad for the Canada Cup in 1987 .
