Patric Jesper Boqvist (* thirtieth August 1998 in Falun ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who since June 2019 when the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League is under contract and in parallel for their farm team, the Binghamton Devils in the American Hockey League on the position of the center plays.
Career
Jesper Boqvist was born in Falun and grew up in Hedemora . There he began playing ice hockey at the local Hedemora SK before moving to the youth team at Brynäs IF for the 2014/15 season. For the team from Gävle he played for the first time in the J20 SuperElit , Sweden's highest-ranking junior league , in the same season . There the attacker recorded 58 points in 38 games in the following year and was only surpassed by Lias Andersson (59) in the league, while he was on the ice for the first time for the men's selection of Brynäs IF in the Svenska Hockeyligan (SHL). He spent the 2016/17 season in roughly equal parts in the SuperElit, with the A-team from Brynäs and on loan from Timrå IK from the second-class Allsvenskan . In the playoffs for the championship of 2017, he reached the final with Brynäs, but failed there with 3: 4 to HV71 . Then the Swede was considered in the NHL Entry Draft 2017 in 36th position by the New Jersey Devils . In the further course he established himself in the SHL and was in the season 2018/19 with 35 points from 51 games, the second best scorer of his team after Ryan Gunderson (38).
The New Jersey Devils provided Boqvist with an entry-level contract in June 2019 before he earned a place in their line-up as part of the preparation for the 2019/20 season. As a result, he made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) at the beginning of October 2019 , but is also on the ice with the farm team , the Binghamton Devils from the American Hockey League (AHL).
International
The Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2015 was the first international tournament that Boqvist played with the Swedish youth national teams. There the team won the silver medal, as well as at the following U18 World Cup in 2016 after a final defeat against Finland. He then took part with the U20 national team of his home country in the U20 World Cup 2018 , where the Tre Kronor won another silver medal after another defeat in the final. Finally, the attacker also made his debut for Sweden's senior team as part of the 2018/19 Euro Hockey Tour .
