Career
John Hayden was born in Chicago, but grew up in Greenwich , Connecticut , where he attended the Brunswick School in his youth and played for their ice hockey team in the regional high school league. For the 2011/12 season, the attacker moved to the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP), the central talent factory of the US hockey association USA Hockey . With the selections of the NTDP he took part in the game operation of the United States Hockey League (USHL), the highest junior league in the country. In addition, the teams in the program act as junior national teams, so that Hayden took part in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2012 and the U18 World Championship in 2013 , where they each won the silver medal. After two seasons he retired due to age from the NTDP and was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2013 in 74th position by the Chicago Blackhawks from his native city.
In the fall of 2013, Hayden enrolled at Yale University , where he began studying political science , while at the same time participating in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) game operations for the Yale Bulldogs in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) . At Yale, the American increased his personal statistics from year to year, so that in the 2016/17 season, as captain of the Bulldogs, with 34 scorer points from 33 games, he achieved an average of over 1.0 for the first time and as a result made it into the ECAC Second All-Star Team was chosen. He also represented the US U20 national team at the 2015 U20 World Cup , where he finished fifth with the team.
After the college season ended, Hayden signed an entry-level deal with the Chicago Blackhawks in March 2017 . As a result, the striker made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) and came to a total of 13 appearances for the Blackhawks by the end of the season. As part of the subsequent preparation for the 2017/18 season, Hayden was able to defend his place in Chicago's squad for the time being.
After a little over two years in the organization of the Blackhawks, Hayden was handed over to the New Jersey Devils in June 2019 in exchange for John Quenneville .
