Mirco Müller (born March 21, 1995 in Winterthur ) is a Swiss ice hockey player who has been under contract with the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League since June 2017 and plays for them in the position of defender. His younger sister Alina Müller is also an ice hockey player and is a member of the Swiss women's national team .
Career
After his youth at his home club, the EHC Winterthur , Müller played between 2010 and 2012. for various teams in the Kloten Flyers , including seven games in the 2011/12 season the National League A . At the 2012 CHL Import Draft , Müller was elected eleventh by the Everett Silvertips , where he was the second best defender of his team with 31 points in his first season in the Western Hockey League . After the season he took part in the CHL Top Prospects Game .
At the NHL Entry Draft 2013 he was selected by the San Jose Sharks in 18th place and in September of the same year equipped with a three-year contract. After he made the jump to the AHL farm team , the Worcester Sharks , in January 2014 , he has been part of the San Jose Sharks roster since his ninth NHL game. By the end of the season he was on the ice 39 times for the Sharks, but he lost his regular place during the preparation for the 2015/16 season, so that he was given to the new farm team, the San Jose Barracuda . The Swiss also spent most of the 2016/17 season there , before handing over a five-round vote in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for a second and fourth-round vote in the same draft to the New Jersey Devils in mid-June 2017 . On July 22, 2019, Müller signed a $ 1.4 million one-year contract for the 2019/20 season with the New Jersey Devils and thus retained the Newark franchise for another season.
International
In the junior division, Müller was on the ice at numerous tournaments for the Swiss youth national teams. He played the ice hockey tournament of the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival 2011 , where he won the bronze medal, as well as the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2011 , the U18 Junior World Championship in 2013 and the U20 Junior World Championship in 2013 , 2014 and 2015 .
The defender made his debut for the senior national team at the 2018 World Cup , in which the Swiss won the silver medal. In ten tournament games he contributed six points scorer.
