Jesper Bratt was born in Stockholm and played for Trångsunds IF in a part of the municipality of Huddinge south of the Swedish capital until 2013 . In the 2012/13 season he played there at the age of 14 in the fourth-class Division 2 already at men's level. In the 2013/14 season, the winger moved to the youth division of AIK Ishockey and played for their junior teams over the next two years, mainly in the J18 Allsvenskan and the J20 SuperElit , the highest Swedish junior leagues in these age groups. The Swede also made his professional debut in the 2014/15 season, when he made a total of five appearances for the men's division of the AIK in the Allsvenskan . There Bratt was mainly used from the 2015/16 season and posted 17 scorer points in 48 games in his first full season before he was selected in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft in 162nd place by the New Jersey Devils . At the same time, he was also considered in the KHL Junior Draft 2016 in 119th position by HK CSKA Moscow .
After the 2016/17 season, Bratt signed an entry-level contract with the New Jersey Devils in May 2017 . In the pre-season that followed, the attacker surprisingly earned a place in the Devils squad and as a result made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) in October 2017 . He scored three goals with six points in his first three games. He finished his rookie season with 35 points from 74 games.
