Connor Carrick (born April 13, 1994 in Orland Park , Illinois ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League since February 2019 and plays for them on the position of defender .
Career
Carrick played during his junior years for the Chicago Fury until 2010 before he joined the US National Team Development Program of the US ice hockey association USA Hockey . So he beat the career on the Canadian junior leagues - he had previously been selected in the OHL Priority Selection by the Plymouth Whalers - initially and spent two seasons in the United States Hockey League . It was not until the 2012/13 season that the defender moved to the Plymouth Whalers in the Ontario Hockey League , after he was drawn in the fifth round of the NHL Entry Draft in 2012 in 137th position by the Washington Capitals from the National Hockey League .
After a year with the Whalers, Carrick switched to professional life in the fall of 2013, after the Capitals offered him a three-year contract in September. In the course of the 2013/14 season , the stakes of the defender were shared between the Capitals and their farm team , the Hershey Bears , from the American Hockey League . The seasons 2014/15 and 2015/16 Carrick stayed - with the exception of three games between Christmas and New Year's Eve 2015 - in the AHL with the Bears and stagnated in his development as an attacking defender. On February 28, 2016, he was finally transferred to the Toronto Maple Leafs with Brooks Laich and a second-round vote in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft . In return, they gave Daniel Winnik and a five-round vote in the same draft.
At the Leafs, the management relied on the skills of Carricks from the start and used him in 16 games by the end of the season, in which he scored four points. He was one of the few positive appearances in the season of the traditional Canadian team. Shortly before the end of the NHL season, the American and a large number of other players were loaned to the Toronto Marlies farm team in the AHL in order to strengthen it in the playoffs for the Calder Cup . The team was eliminated in the semifinals. Carrick finished the playoffs with 18 points scorer - the record among all players. On July 22, 2016, the Maple Leafs extended the defender's expiring contract for two years.
After another contract extension in June 2018, the Maple Leafs gave the American to the Dallas Stars in October 2018 . In return, they received a seven-round vote for the 2019 NHL Entry Draft . The defender only played 14 games for the stars until February 2019, after which he joined the New Jersey Devils with a third-round vote in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft . Ben Lovejoy gave them to Dallas for this .
International
At the international level, Carrick represented his home country at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2011 , the U18 Junior World Championship 2012 and the U20 Junior World Championship 2014 . He won the silver medal at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge and only one year later he was able to achieve the world championship title at the U18 Junior World Championship.
