Career
Travis Zajac began his career as a hockey player with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, for which he was active in the British Columbia Hockey League from 2002 to 2004 . He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2004 in the first round as a total of 20th player by the New Jersey Devils . The Canadian first played for the University of North Dakota team for two years before playing for New Jersey's farm team , the Albany River Rats from the American Hockey League , for the first time in the 2005/06 season . After his debut in the National Hockey League , Zajac came in the following three seasons - except in two games - in all games of the regular season for the Devils.
In the 2009/10 season he set a new personal record with 67 points scorer after he had developed into a regular player with the Devils by then. In mid-March 2011, Zajac set a new franchise record with 389 games in a row, previously held by Ken Daneyko . By the end of the 2010/11 season , he built his record series, which the striker had started on October 26, 2006, to 401 NHL games in a row. In the 2011/12 season he only played 15 regular season games due to an injury. In the playoffs, in which the Devils reached the Stanley Cup finals, he was used in 24 games.
International
Zajac represented his home country for the first time at the 2009 World Cup in Switzerland . The Canadians advanced to the final at the World Cup, but failed there to defending champions Russia with a 2-1 defeat, so they won the silver medal. Zajac himself was used in five games, but remained pointless and received two penalty minutes. Two years later he was back in the squad at the 2011 World Cup in Slovakia . Despite the sovereign preliminary and intermediate rounds, the Canadians failed in the quarter-finals to Russia and finished the world title fights in fifth place outside the medal ranks. The striker held the position of during the tournament assistant captain . In seven missions he scored one goal and prepared two more. He also spent two minutes in the penalty box and was the fifth most successful player at the face-off point of the entire competition.
