Karl Ferdinand von Altenbockum (also: Carl Ferdinand von Alten-Bockum; born March 30, 1786 in Rinteln , † November 12, 1841 in Kassel ) was a major general of the Electorate of Hesse .

Origin and family

Karl Ferdinand came from the ancient noble family Altenbockum , which emigrated from Westphalia to the Duchy of Courland and Semgallia , and from there a branch of the family settled in the Landgraviate of Hessen-Kassel . His father was Ernst Eberhard von Altenbockum (* 1737 in Altroggen ( Kurland ), † 1795 in Duisburg ), who was married to Charlotta Magdalene, born von und zu Gilsa (1747-1815). Karl Ferdinand married in 1830 in Oberschöna Ottilie Jeanette von Carlowitz from the home Oberschona (* 1804 in Dresden , † 1886 in Rotenburg an der Fulda ). Her son was the electoral Hessian district administrator and member of parliament Carl von Altenbockum .

Career

As a captain in the Grenadier Battalion "von Haller", Altenbockum was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Iron Helmet for his work in the Wars of Liberation in 1814 against France . He later served as a colonel and commander of the life guard regiment with garrison in Kassel.
