Ryan Gunderson (born August 16, 1985 in Bensalem , Pennsylvania ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with Friborg-Gottéron in the National League since the 2019/20 season .
Career
At the beginning of his career, Gunderson stood for the university team of the University of Vermont in Hockey East , which is part of the NCAA game operations , for a total of 148 games on the ice between 2003 and 2007 , thus holding the team record for most missions. In spring 2007 he played 12 games for the Columbia Inferno in the East Coast Hockey League , before Gunderson moved to the Trenton Devils for the 2007/08 season within the league and spent a total of two seasons there. The defender was able to recommend himself with good offensive statistics and then received a contract with the Houston Eros in July 2009 , for which he played in the American Hockey League in the 2009/10 season.
In the summer of 2010, Gunderson decided to move to Europe and joined the Swedish club Örebro HK from the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan , where he was able to show his offensive skills again and with 11 hits and 28 assists was the best defender in the league. In April 2011, the left-handed player moved to Brynäs IF in the Elitserien , where he was able to confirm his achievements in the following three years and was twice the most attacking defender in Sweden's top division and won the championship with his team in the 2011/12 season. From summer 2013 Gunderson ran for one year for Jokerit in the Continental Hockey League before he joined league rivals HK Dinamo Minsk for the 2015/16 season.
Internationally, he represented his home country at the 2018 Winter Olympics and finished seventh there with the team that competed without an NHL player.
Between 2016 and 2019, Gunderson played in Sweden's top division for Brynäs IF and collected 38 points (8 goals, 30 assists) in 52 games in the 2018/19 season. He was the eighth best scorer in the league; In addition, he was the most used player in the league with 25.40 minutes of ice time per game. Thanks to these achievements, Gunderson was elected to the All-Star Team of the Svenska Hockeyligan. For the 2019/20 season he moved to Friborg-Gottéron .
